Induction hobs and pan sizes

Posting date: 7th March 2011 13:58

Q What size of pan should I use on my induction hob? I understand that not all pans will activate the hob

A First of all, check your hob instructions which should tell you. But the following is a good guide, from Woll induction cookware :

Induction hobs are equipped with intelligent magnetic field sensors that recognize whether the pan is suitable for the hob. These sensors are often positioned around the edge of the hob, which means the diameter of the induction hob should not be larger than the bottom of the pan, otherwise the pan will not recognized as suitable for induction hobs. The position of the sensors will vary according to the manufacturer but the hob area can be smaller than the base of the pan, but not larger.
