A Frying Pan for cooking steak

Posting date: 6th September 2010 21:02

Hi. Different pans are better, not only for different foods but for different styles of cooking and the calibre of the cook. Personally, I would probably use my Swiss Diamond frying pan to cook a steak. This is because it does need a little bit of oil which will braise the steak nicely, but the non stick surface will help me to avoid over browning.

Lots of professional chefs, however, would use a stainless steel pan - it takes a good cook to do a good steak in a stainless steel frying pan as it is so easy to burn the oil. But done well, I suspect it may give the best results.

Personally, I would not use a very non stick pan like Gastrolux or SKK to cook steak, because they do not brown so well, being so very non stick. But, there are plenty of people out there, trying to avoid using any fat in their cooking, in which case the SKK or Gastrolux is a good idea.

So, sorry not to give a hard and fast answer to your question, but it does all depend on how you like your steak and good a cook you are!
